Field trip to our local airport

I wanted to have one more day talking about air planes before the last day of the month. We packed a lunch and ended up at our local airport. It was so much fun. The children were so excited seeing the planes flying over our heads as we were nearing the airport. We stood there on the edge of the launch pad watching the planes coming and going. I asked them all kinds of questions like... Can you eat on an airplane? What happened when you have to go to the bathroom? We talked about what happens when the airplane is about to take off. We discussed what the flight attendants job is... serving drinks and food to the passengers. How they review safety issues before the airplane takes off. We tuned into the airports radio station to hear the pilots talking with the air traffic controllers. That was really interesting. They almost spoke a different language. It was fun to hear them say you are ready for take off and then to watch the airplane start down the run way, picking up speed, and lifting off of the ground. We were there for over an hour talking about experiences I have had on airplanes and review all that we have discussed this past month. It was so much fun.
